DOCG for red Spumante (sparkling wine) in the Marches wine-growing region in Italy. The wine was classified as DOC in 1971, and elevated to DOCG status in 2003. The zone includes the commune of Serrapetrona, from which the name i staken, and parts of the communes of Belforte del Chienti and San Severino Marche in the province of Macerata. A perlé wine was produced in this area as long ago as the 15th century. The wine is dry, and is made from partly dried grapes of the Vernaccia di Serrapetrona = Vernaccia Nera variety (85-100%), as well as optionally from Sangiovese, Montepulciano or Ciliegiolo (up to 15%). There are two versions, Secco (dry) and Dolce (sweet). See also under Vernaccia.
