Comprehensive regional DOC in the wine-growing region of the same name, Trentino (southern section of the twin region of Trentino-Alto Adige) in Italy. The vineyard area totals around 4.000 hectares, that is significantly more than 50% of the area. A wide range of more than 60 different red, white and rosé wines is produced. The region stretches over almost the whole province of Trento, and includes the plains and hillside slopes in the river vallies of the Adige river and its tributaries, the Sarca as well as areas around the lakes of Caldonazzo and Levico, in a total of 72 communes. Varietal-labelled wines may contain up to 15% of other permitted varieties of the same colour. The wines are Cabernet (Cabernet Franc and/or Cabernet Sauvignon), Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Lagrein, Marzemino, , Merlot, Moscato Giallo = Goldmuskateller (also made as a sweet liquoroso), Moscato Rosa or Moscato delle Rose = Rosenmuskateller (also made as a sweet liquoroso), Müller-Thurgau, Nosiola, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Nero, Rebo, Riesling Italico, Riesling Renano, Sauvignon and Traminer Aromatico. The Bianco is made from Chardonnay and/or Pinot Bianco (80-100%), as well as from any combination of Incrocio Manzoni 6.0.13, Müller-Thurgau and Sauvignon (up to 20%). The Rosso is made from Cabernet Franc and/or Cabernet Sauvignon and/or Merlot. The Rosato, or Kretzer, is made from Enantio, Schiava, Teroldego and Lagrein, the wine must contain a minimum of two of these varieties, and no individual variety may account for more than 70% of the total. Vin Santo is produced in 11 communes from Nosiola (minimum of 85%). In a part of the communes of Lavis (with the suburb of Sorni, from which the name is taken), Giovo and San Michele all´Adige, a wine called Bianco Sorni is made (from any combination of Chardonnay, Müller-Thurgau, Nosiola and Pinot Bianco), as is Sorni Rosso (any combination of Lagrein, Schiava Grigia, Schiava Grossa, Schaiva Gentile and Teroldego). Most of the wines are produced in a dry style (secco), but some are also available in amabile (semi-sweet) and dolce (sweet) versions. Many of the wines are available in a late harvest version (Vendemmia Tardiva, minimum alcohol content of 15% vol, matured for one year) and as a Riserva.
