Top wines in Domain Terre di Franciacorta DOC
DOC for dry red and white wines in the wine-growing region of Lombardy in Italy, created for still wines after the Franciacorta sparkling wines were classified as DOCG. The zone is identical with that for the DOCG, and includes 19 communes located south of Lake Iseo in the province of Brescia. The Rosso is a blend made from Cabernet Franc and/or Cabernet Sauvignon (25-70%), Chiavennasca = Nebbiolo, Merlot und Barbera (10-55% each), as well as optionally from other permitted red varieties (up to 10%). The Bianco is made from Chardonnay and/or Pinot Bianco and/or Pinot Nero. A stronger version of each of these, with a minimum alcohol content of 12% vol, bears the additional designation „Vigna“. The region has more recently been renamed Curtefranca, to create a differentiation to the Spumante, and to avoid confusion. Currently, labels often state both designations, for example Terre di Franciacorta Curtefranca Rosso.
