The „Tarucco - Azienda Agricola Geraci“ estate is located in Bisacquino - Contessa Entellina in the province of Palermo in Sicily. A castle named “Feudo Tarucco (i.e. stone in the road) was built here in the 14th century. In the 18th century, a country manor with a winery, by the name of „Case Langer“ was built here. The property was sold to the Geraci family in 1920 by the Pallme König family. Today the estate is run by Antonella and Stefano Geraci. The vineyard area totals 15 hectares, located at an altitude of 400 to 480 metres above sea-level, and featuring sandy soils, clay and limestone-rich soils. The terroir was named „Tarucco“ after the eponymous castle. Grape varieties planted here are Nero d´Avola, Greco Dorato (Grecanico), Grillo, as well as Alicante Bouchet, Chardonnay, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. Olive trees, used for the production of olive oil, are planted on three hectares. The wines are made by the well-known oenologist Donato Lanati from the Piemont region. The premium wines include the Tarucco Peralta (Nero d´Avola, Syrah, Cabernet Saivignon), Tarucco Alicante, Tarucco Nero d´Avola and Tarucco Syrah, all of which are matured in barriques for 12 months, as well as the blends Tarucco Gioeni (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Alicante Bouschet) and Tarucco Colonna (Grillo, Greco Dorato, Chardonnay). The label shows a lady sitting atop the Trinacria (very old name for Sicily) as on a throne. Annual production is around 120.000 bottles of wine.
