DOC for red, rosé and white wines on the island of Sicily off the coast of Italy. The zone includes the communes of Sciacca, from which the name is taken, and Caltabellotta in the province of Agrigento. The varietal-labelled wines made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Grecanico, Inzolia, Merlot and Nero d´Avola must contain a minimum of 85% of the stated variety, the remainder may be made up of other permitted varieties of the same colour. The Bianco is a blend made from any one or more of the varieties Catarratto Bianco Lucido, Chardonnay, Grecanico and Inzolia (70-100%), as well as optionally from other permitted white varieties (up to 30%). The Riserva Rayana is made exclusively in the sub-zone of Rayana (located within the communal area of Sciacca) from Catarratto Bianco Lucido and/or Inzolia (80-100%), and optionally from other permitted white varieties (up to 20%). The regulations prescribe that the wine must be matured for two years before being sold, of which one year must be in oak barrels. Rosso and Rosato are made from any one or more of the varieties Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Nero d´Avola and Sangiovese (70-100%), as well as optionally from other permitted red varieties (up to 30%). If it is matured for a minimum of two years (of which one year in oak barrels) and has a minimum alcohol content of 12,5% vol, the Rosse may be called a Riserva.
