Sicily

DOC for red and white wines on the island of Sicily off the coast of Italy. The zone includes the communes of Santa Margherita di Belice (from which the name is taken) and Montevago in the province of Agrigento. The varietal-labelled wines Ansonica, Catarratto, Grecanico, Nero d´Avola and Sangiovese must contain a minimum of 85% of the stated variety, the balance may be made up of other permitted varieties of the same colour. The Rosso is a blend made from Cabernet Sauvignon and/or Sangiovese (50-80%), Nero d´Avola (20-50%), as well as optionally from other permitted red varieties (up to 15%). The Bianco is a blend made from Catarratto Bianco Lucido and/or Grecanico (50-70%), Ansonica (30-50%), as well as optionally from other permitted white varieties (up to 15%).
