DOC for dry red wine in the wine-growing region of Emilia-Romagna in Italy. The zone includes an extensive hilly area, including a total of 42 communes in the provinces of Bologna, Forlì-Cesena, Ravenna and Rimini. The wine is ruby red and is made from Sangiovese ( 85-100%), as well as optionally from other permitted red varieties (up to 15%). It is also made as a Novello, Superiore (15% vol alcohol content) and Riserva (matured for two years).
