Sicily

DOC or red, rosé and white wines on the island of Sicily off the coast of Italy. The zone includes the commune of Sambuca di Sicilia, from which it takes the name, in the province of Agrigento. Varietal-labelled Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay wines must contain a minimum of 85% of the stated variety, the balance may be made up of other permitted varieties of the same colour. Rosso and Rosato are blends made from Nero d´Avola = Calabrese (50-75%), with the addition of any mixture of the following varieties: Nerello Mascalese, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon (25-50%), as well as optionally from other permitted red varieties (up to 15%). If matured for one year, of which six months in an oak barrel, and with a minimum alcohol content of 12% vol., the Rosso may be called a Riserva. The Bianco is a blend made from Ansonica (50-75%), Catarratto Bianco Lucido and/or Chardonnay (25-50%), as well as optionally fr4om other permitted white varieties (up to 15%, excepting Trebbiano Toscano).
