Tuscany

DOC for dry red wine in the wine-growing region of Tuscany in Italy. The zone includes sites in the commune of Montepulciano in the province of Siena. The wine is made from Prugnolo Gentile (a clone of Sangiovese, 70-100%), Canaiolo Nero (up to 20%), as well as optionally from other permitted varieties (up to 20%, of which a maximum of 10% white varieties, excluding Malvasia). In comparison with the DOCG wine Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, made in the same region, the Rosso is lighter (minimum alcohol content 11,5% vol.), and may be sold as of the 1st of March of the year following the harvest.
