DOC for dry red wine in the wine-growing region of Tuscany in Italy. The zone covers an area of around 30 hectares of vineyards in the commune of Montalcino in the province of Siena. It is a pure varietal wine made exclusively from the Sangiovese clone Brunello. In comparison with the DOCG wine Brunello di Montalcino, which is produced in the same region, it is lighter (minimum alcohol content of 12% vol) and can be drunk sooner, as it is matured for only one year. The red wine is also described as being a „young Brunello“.
