DOC (also known as Orvietano Rosso) for mainly dry red wines in the wine-growing region of Umbria in Italy. The zone includes the communes of Allerona, Alviano, Baschi, Castel Giorgio, Castel Viscardo, Fabro, Ficulle, Guardea, Montecchio, Montegabbione, Monteleone d´Orvieto, Orvieto (from which the name is taken), Porano and San Venanzo in the province of Terni. The varietal-labelled wines Aleatico (in secco, amabile and dolce versions), Cabernet (Cabernet Franc and/or Cabernet Sauvignon), Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Canaiolo, Ciliegiolo, Merlot, Pinot Nero and Sangiovese must contain a minimum of 85% of the stated variety, the remaining 15% may be made up of other permitted red varieties. The Rosso is a blend made from any mixture of Aleatico, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Ciliegiolo, Merlot, Montepulciano, Pinot Nero and Sangiovese (70-100%), as well as optionally from any mixture of Barbera, Cesanese Comune, Colorino and Dolcetto (up to 30%).
