DOCG for dry red, white and sparklin wine in the Piemont wine-growing region in Italy. DOCG classification was awarded in December 2004. The zone is located in the Roero hills, and is named after the landscape of the same name. The vineyard area totals 700 hectares, located on the left bank of the Tanaro river in the communes of Baldissero d´Alba, Castagnito, Castellinaldo, Govone, Guarene, Magliano Alfieri, Monta, Montaldo Roero, Monteu Roero, Monticello d´Alba, Pocapaglia, Priocca, Santa Vittoria d´Alba, Santo Stefano Roero and Sommariva Perno in the province of Cuneo. The Roero (Rosso) is made from Nebbiolo (95-98%), Arneis (2-5%), as well as from other permitted red varieties (up to 3%). The minimum alcohol content specified is 12,5% vol. It must be matured for a minimum of 20 months before being released for sale, of which 6 months must be in barrel. If it is matured for a minimum of 32 months, of which 6 months must be in barrel, it may be called a Riserva. The Roero Arneis (Bianco) is a straight varietal made from the Arneis grape, the minimum alcohol content is 11% vol. The Roero Arneis Spumante must have a minimum alcohol content of 11,5% vol. Well-known producers include Carretta, Deltetto, Fontanafredda, Funtanin, Giacosa Bruno, Marchesi di Barolo, Malvirà, Marsaglia, Mauro Sebaste, Montaribaldi, Angelo Negro & Figli, Prunotto, Michele Taliano, Terre da Vino and Vielmin.
