Molise

DOC (also known just as Pentro) for dry red rosé and white wines in the wine-growing region of Molise in Italy. The name Pentro is derived from the ancient tribe of Pentrians that used to live in this region. The zone includes the communes of Agnone, Belmonte del Sannio, Castelverrino, Colli a Volturno, Fornelli, Isernia, Longano, Macchia d´Isernia, Montaquila, Monteroduni, Pesche, Pietrabbondante, Poggio Sannita, Pozzilli, Sant´Agapito and Venafro in the province of Isernia. The vineyards are located on sunny hillside slopes at an altitude of no more than 500 to 600 metres above sea level. Rosso and Rosato are blends made from Montepulciano and Sangiovese (45-55% each), as well as optionally from other permitted red varieties (up to 10%). The Bianco is a blend of Trebbiano Toscano (60-70%), Bombino Bianco (30-40%), as well as optionally of other permitted white varieties (up to 10%).
