Tuscany

DOC for sweet white wine in the wine-growing region of Tuscany in Italy. Sweet wines have been produced from Muscat grapes here since medieval times. The zone includes the entire commune of Montalcino in the province of Siena, the home of the famous DOCG red wine Brunello di Montalcino. The wine (also made as a Frizzante) is made from Moscato Bianco (85-100%), as well as optionally from other permitted white varieties (up to 15%). The Vendemmia Tardiva (late harvest) is made from grapes that have already been partly dried on the wine, these are then still dried further after picking, the wine has an alcohol content of 15% vol. Well-known producers include Caparzo, Castello Banfi, Col d´Orcia, La Poderina, Poggio Salvi and Tenuta Il Poggione.
