Tuscany

DOC for dry red wine in the south of the Maremma region in the wine-growing region of Tuscany in Italy. The zone includes the entire commune of Scansano, from which it takes the name, as well as parts of the communes of Campagnatico, Grosseto, Magliano in Toscana, Manciano, Roccalbegna and Semproniano in the province of Grosseto. The wine is made from Morellino = Sangiovese (85-100%), as well as optionally from other permitted red varieties (up to 15% ). If matured for a minimum of two years (of which at least one year in barrel) and with a minimum alcohol content of 12% vol it may be called a Riserva.
