DOC for a wide range of dry red, rosé and white wines in the Piemonte wine-growing region in Italy. The zone includes 137 communes in the province of Alessandria and 146 communes in the province of Asti. The varietal-labelled red Dolcetto (also made as a Novello) and Freisa, as well as the white Casalese Cortese are made from the respective stated varieties (minimum of 85%), with the permitted addition of other permitted red resp. white varieties (up to 15%). The Chiaretto (also Ciaret = Rosato) is made from any one or more of the varieties Barbera, Bonarda Piemontese, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Dolcetto, Freisa, Grignolino, Nebbiolo and Pinot Nero (85-100%), as well as optionally from other permitted varieties (up to 15%). The Bianco and Rosso wines may be made from any blend of the permitted white resp. red varieties.
