Veneto

DOC for a wide range of dry red and white wines in the Veneto wine-growing region in Italy. The zone includes the commune of Merlara, from which the name is taken, as well as other communes in the provinces of Padua and Verona. Varietal-labelled wines must contain at least 85% of the stated variety, the remainder may be made up of permitted varieties of the same colour. The varietal wines are Malvasia (from Malvasia Istriana), Tocai Friulano, Cabernet (Cabernet Franc and/or Cabernet Sauvignon), Cabernet Sauvignon, Marzemino Frizzante and Merlot. The Bianco is a blend of Tocai Friulano (50-70%) and other permitted white varieties. The Rosso is a blend made from Merlot (50-70%), as well as from any combination of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenère and Marzemino (up to 50%).
