Piemont

DOC for sweet red and rosé wines in the wine-growing region of Piemonte in Italy. The name has been chosen to honour Don Giovanni Bosco, who was born in Castelnuovo, and founded the Salesian order, which is active in caring for orphans, he is revered as a holy man in his home town. The zone includes the communes of Albugnano, Berzano, Castelnuovo Don Bosco, Moncucco, Passerano Marmorito and Pino d´Asti in the province of Asti. Rosso and Rosato are made from Malvasia di Schierano (85-100%), and may contain up to 15% of Freisa. The cherry-red wines are mostly produced in Frizzante or Spumante versions.
