DOC for dry red, rosé and white wines in the wine-growing region of Apulia in Italy. The zone includes the entire area of the communes of Lizzano and Faggiano, as well as part of the commune of Taranto in the province of Taranto. The varietal-labelled wines Malvasia Nera, Negroamaro Rosso and Negroamaro Rosato must contain a minimum of 85% of the stated variety, the remainder may be made up of other permitted red varieties. The first two wines mentioned are also available in Superiore version, with a higher prescribed alcohol content. Bianco and Bianco Spumante are blends made from Trebbiano Toscano (40-60%), Chardonnay and/or Pinot Bianco (30-40%), Sauvignon and/or Bianco di Alessano (0-25%). Rosso (also made as a Novello) and Rosato are blends amde from Negroamaro (60-80%), any combination of one or more of Montepulciano, Sangiovese, Bombino Nero and Pinot Nero (0-40%), as well as optionally from Malvasia Nera di Brindisi and/or Malvasia Nera di Lecce (up to 10%). Both are also made as a Frizzante. If the wine is released for sale before the 30th of March of the year following the harvest, both may also be called Giovane.
