Marches

DOC (also Lacrima di Morro for short) for red wine in the Marches wine-growing region in Italy. The zone was established in 1985, with the aim of preventing the grape variety from falling into total disuse. The zone includes the communes of Belvedere Ostrense, Monte San Vito, Morro d´Alba (from whence the name), Ostra, San Marcello and Senigallia in the province of Ancona. The wine is made from Lacrima di Morro (85-100%), as well as optionally from other permitted red varieties (up to 15%), such as Montepulciano, Sangiovese as well as the white variety Verdicchio. A Passito made from dried grapes is also available.
