| The cooperative cellar is located in Bolzano/Bozen in Alto Adige in the Alto Adige-Trentino wine-growing region in Italy. It was founded in 2001 when the cooperative in Gries (founded 1908) and the St. Magdalena cooperative (founded 1930) merged. The managing director is Klaus Sparer, the cellar master is Stephan Filippi. The roughly 200 members cultivate a total vineyard area of around 300 hectares mostly on the steep slopes of St. Magdalena on the northern border of the city, and in the alluvial regions of the Lagrein district in Bolzano-Gries. White varieties planted are Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Müller-Thurgau, Goldmuskateller, Rosenmuskateller and Silvaner, the red varieties planted are Vernatsch (Trollinger), Pinot Noir, Lagrein, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The traditional pergola form of trellising is almost exclusively restricted to Vernatsch vines, all the other varieties are increasingly being trained on wire-frame trellises. There is a wide range of products, with the following ranges: basic wines, Collection Gries, Prestige Gries, Weingüter St. Magdalena, Prestige St. Magdalena and dessert wines. DOC wines are produced from the following regions: Eisacktaler, Kalterersee, St. Magdalener and Südtiroler. Premium wines include the Alto Adige Lagrein Riserva "Taber" and Alto Adige Lagrein Gries Riserva "Prestige line". Annual production is around 2.5 million bottles.

| The Kleinstein Chardonnay is the top wine this year, heading up a range of wines which are all pleasant to drink and can all be recommended. The "Huck am Bach", too, once again shows exceptional quality. We believe the "Dellago" Pinot Blanc can still improve with further maturation. |

| The Bolzano cellars have submitted an extremely homogeneous range that shows no weak links. It seems that this year one can buy these wines blind. We were surprised by a wonderful Müller-Thurgau, a real showpiece for this variety, and possibly the best in this style we have ever seen. The Pinot Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc, too, are classy wines.
