Calabria

DOC for sweet dessert white wine in the wine-growing region of Calabria in Italy. The zone includes the coastal city of Bianco, from which it takes the name, as well as parts of the commune of Casignana in the province of Reggio Calabria, at the Tipp of the Italian boot. The wine is honey to amber coloured, and is made from partly dried, raisined grapes of the Greco Bianco variety (95-100%), as well as optionally from other permitted white varieties (up to 5%), it has an aromatic bouquet of herbs and citrus fruit. The alcohol content is 17% vol, the minimum maturation period prescribed is one year. The Greco di Gerace and Mantonico di Bianco wines, which are not DOC classified, are similar.
