  Gioia del Colle DOC

DOC for red, rosé and white wines in the wine-growing region of Apulia in Italy. The zone includes the communes of Acquaviva delle Fonti, Adelfia, Casamassima, Cassano delle Murge, Castellana Grotte, Conversano, Gioia del Colle, Grumo Appula, Noci, Putignano, Rutigliano, Sammichele di Bari, Sannicandro di Bari, Santeramo in Colle and Turi in the province of Bari. The Primitivo grape variety was discovered in the commune of Gioia, from which the area takes its name, and it is therefore also known as Primitivo di Gioia. The Primitivo labelled as such is a pure varietal wine made from this variety, if it has a minimum alcohol content of 14% vol and has been matured for two years it may be called a Riserva. The sweet Aleatico Dolce (also made as a Riserva) and Aleatico Liquoroso Dolce wines are made from Aleatico (85-100%), as well as optionally from any combination of Negroamaro, Malvasia Nera and Primitivo (up to 15%). The dry Bianco is a blend made from Trebbiano Toscano (50-70%), as well as from other permitted white varieties (30-50%). The dry Rosso and Rosato wines are blends of Primitivo (50-60%), as well as from any combination of Montepulciano, Negro Amaro, Sangiovese and a maximum of 10% of Malvasia Nera (total of 40-50%).
