DOCG for dry red wine in the Piemonte wine-growing region in Italy, named after the commune of the same name. The name dates back to the Celtic tribe, the Agamicans zurück, that was already engaged in growing wine here. The relatively small zone has a total vineyard area of only 85 hectares located in the communes of Ghemme and Romagnano Sesia on the east side of the Sesia valley in the province of Novara. The wine was classified as DOC in 1969, and was awarded DOCG status in 1995. The wine is made from Nebbiolo (75-100%), as well as Vespolina and/or Uva Rara = Bonarda (up to 25%). The wine is ruby red and spicy, and has a slightly bitter finish, it is similar to the DOCG wine produced in the neighbouring Gattinara zone. The minimum alcohol content is 12% vol, it must be matured for a minimum of three years, of which a minimum of 20 months must be in bottle, and a minimum of 9 months in bottle. If it has an alcohol content of 12,.5% vol and has been matured for 4 years (of which a minimum of 25 months in oak barrels and 9 months in the bottle) it may be called a Riserva. Well-known producers include Antichi Vigneti di Cantalupo, Dessilani and Rovellotti.
