Calabria

DOC for dry red, rosé and white wines in the wine-growing region of Calabria in Italy. The zone includes the communes of Aprigliano, Cellara, Cosenza, Dipignano, Figline Vegliaturo, Mangone, Paterno Calabro, Pedace, Piane Crati and Pietrafitta in the province of Cosenza. The Bianco is made from Montonico Bianco = Mantonico (50-100%), as well as optionally from any combination of Greco Bianco and/or Malvasia Bianca and/or Pecorello Bianco (up to 30%), as well as from other permitted white varieties (up to 20%). Rosso (also made as a Novello) and Rosato are made from Magliocco (also known as Montonico Nero) = Gaglioppo (50-90%), Greco Nero (10-50%), and optionally from any combination of Malvasia Bianca, Greco Bianco, Mantonico Bianco and Pecorello Bianco (up to 10%), as well as from other permitted red (maximum of 20%) and white varieties (maximum of 10%). If matured for two years, the Rosso may be called a Riserva.
