DOC for dry red wines in the wine-growing region of Piemonte in Italy. The zone is small, with a total vineyard area of only 50 hectares, and is located in the upper Langhe hills. The zone includes parts of the communes of Briaglia, Carru, Castellino Tanaro, Igliano, Marsaglia, Mondavi, Murazzano, Niella Tanaro, Piozzo, San Michele Mondovi, Vicoforte and Verduno, which lie along the Tanaro river in the province of Cuneo. The wine is ruby red and fruity, and is a pure varietal wine made from Dolcetto grapes. If it has a minimum alcohol content of 12,5% vol and has been matured for a year it may be called Superiore. A well-known producer is Barone Riccatti.
