DOC for dry red wines in the wine-growing region of Piemonte in Italy. The zone has a total vineyard area of 230 hectares in the hilly regions around Asti in the Langhe hills, and includes 24 communes in the province of Asti. The wine is ruby red and fruity, and is a pure varietal wine made from Dolcetto grapes. If it has a minimum alcohol content of 12,5% vol and has been matured for a year it may be called Superiore. Well-known producers include Baravalle, Cascina Garitina, Macario Giovanna and Vini Bricco Sori.
