DOC for dry red wines in the wine-growing region of Piemonte in Italy. The zone has a total vineyard area of 2.200 hectares in the hilly regions around Alba in the Langhe hills, and includes the town of Alba, from which it takes its name, as well as another 33 communes in the province of Cuneo, as well as the commune of Coazzolo in the province of Asti. The wine is ruby red and fruity, and is a pure varietal wine made from Dolcetto grapes. If it has a minimum alcohol content of 12,5% vol and has been matured for a year it may be called Superiore. Well-known producers include Altare, Ascheri, Azelia, Batasiolo, Baudana, Boglietti, Brovia, Cabutto, Ca´Viola, Cavallotto, Ciabot Berton, Clerico, Conterno, Corino, Gagliasso, Giacosa Bruno, Gresy, Manzone, Mascarello, Massolino, Mossio, Pelisero, Pira, Prunotto, Sandrone, Sottimano, Mauro Veglio and Voerzio.
