DOC for red, rosé and white wines in the Piemonte wine-growing region in Italy. The zone includes the communes of Brusnengo, Candelo, Cerreto Castello, Cossato, Curino, Lessona, Masserano, Mottalciata, Quaregna, Sostegno, Valdengo, Vigliano Biellese and Villa del Bosco in the province of Biella, as well as the communes of Gattinara, Lozzolo, Rosaio and Serravalle Sesia in the province of Vercelli. The varietal-labelled red wines Bonarda (also known as Uva Rara), Croatina, Nebbiolo (also known as Spanna) and Vespolina must contain a minimum of 85% of the stated variety, the balance may be made up of other permitted red varieties. Rosso (also made as a Novello) and Rosato are blends of any of the varieties Barbera, Bonarda, Nebbiolo and Vespolina (50-100%), as well as optionally from other permitted red varieties (up to 50%). The Bianco is a pure varietal wine made exclusively from Erbaluce.
