Top wines in District Colli di Scandiano e di Canossa DOC

DOC for a wide range of red, rosé and white wines in the wine-growing region of Emilia-Romagna in Italy. The zone includes the towns of Scandiano and Canossa, from which the name is taken, as well as 12 other communes in the province of Reggio Emilia. The varietal wines are made from a minimum of 85% of the stated variety, the balance may be made up of other permitted varieties of the same colour. These are Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Lambrusco Grasparossa, Lambrusco Montericco Rosato, Lambrusco Montericco Rosso, Malvasia (made from Malvasia di Candia Aromatica), Malbo Gentile, Marzemino and Sauvignon. The Pinot is a white wine made exclusively from Pinot Bianco and/or Pinot Nero. The Bianco is usually a blend, made from Spergola = Sauvignon (85-100%), with any combination of Malvasia di Candia, Trebbiano Romagnolo, Pinot Bianco and Pinot Grigio (up to 15%), as well as Malvasia di Candia Aromatica (up to 5%). Wines produced in the oldest production zone may be called Bianco Classico. Most of the wines are produced in Secco style, but many are also made in Abboccato, Amabile and Dolce versions, some are available as Frizzantes or Spumantes, and even as Passitos.
