DOC for a very wide range of just on a hundred different types of red, rosé and white wines in the wine-growing region of Emilia-Romagna in Italy. The zone in the province of Piacenza was created by combining three previously separate and independent DOC zones. It is now divided into the four sub-zones of Gutturnio (with Gutturnio Classico) with nine communes, Monterosso Val d´Arda with six, Trebbianino Val Trebbia with five and Valnure with three communes. The names of the sub-zones are stated on the label. Most of the wines mentioned below are made in Secco style, but many are additionally available in Amabile, Abboccato and Dolce styles, and Frizzante and Spumante versions are also produced. The varietal-labelled wines must contain a minimum of 85% of the stated variety, the remaining 15% may be made up of other permitted varieties of the same colour. The varietal wines are Barbera, Bonarda, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malvasia (also made as a Passito), Ortrugo, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Nero and Sauvignon. Red Gutturnio or Gutturnio Classico (both also available in Superiore and Riserva versions) is a blend made from Barbera (55-70%) and Bonarda = Croatina (up to 45%).
