DOC for a wide range of mostly dry red, rosé and white wines in the wine-growing region of Umbria in Italy. The zone includes the communes of Deruta, Fratta Todina, Marsciano, Monte Castello di Vibio, Perugina and Plegaro to the west of the river Tiber in the province of Perugina, as well as the commune of San Venanzo in the province of Terni. The varietal-labelled wines Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Grechetto, Merlot, Sangiovese, Trebbiano and Pinot Grigio must contain a minimum of 85% of the variety stated, the optional remainder of no more than 15% may be made up of permitted varieties of the same colour. The Bianco is made from Trebbiano Toscano (50-100%), as well as optionally from other permitted white varietes (up to 15%). Rosso, Novello and Rosato are made from Sangiovese (50-100%), as well as optionally from other permitted red varieties (up to 50%). The Spumante is made from any combination of Chardonnay, Grechetto, Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio and Pinot Nero (80-100%), as well as optionally from other permitted white varieties (up to 20%). The Vin Santo or Vino Santo (which is also made as a Dolce) is made from Trebbiano Toscano (50-100%), as well as optionally from other permitted white varieties (up to 50%, of which a maximum of 10% Malvasia).
