DOC for red and white wines in the Marches wine-growing region in Italy. The zone includes the entire province of Macerata, from which it takes its name, as well as the commune of Loreto in the province of Ancona. The Bianco (also made as a Passito and as a Spumante) is made from Ribona = Maceratino (70-100%), any combination of Incrocio Bruni 54, Pecorino, Trebbiano Toscano, Verdicchio, Chardonnay, Sauvignon, Malvasia Bianca Lunga (Malvasia Toscana) and Grechetto (up to 30%), as well as optionally from other permitted white varieties (up to 15%). The Rosso (also made as a Novello and Riserva) is made from Sangiovese (50-100%), any combination of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Ciliegiolo, Lacrima, Merlot, Motepulciano and Vernaccia Nera (up to 50%), as well as from other permitted red varieties (up to 15%). The white Ribona (also made as Passito and Spumante) is made from Maceratino (85-100%) and optionally from other permitted white varieties (up to 15%).
