DOC for a wide range of red and white wines in the Emilia-Romagna wine-growing region in Italy. The zone includes 13 communes in the province of Bologna, as well as the commune of Savignano sul Panaro in the province of Modena. The varietal-labelled wines must contain a minimum of 85% of the stated variety, the remainder must be made up of permitted varieties of the same colour. These include Barbera, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pignoletto, Pinot Bianco, Riesling Italico and Sauvignon. The Bianco is a blend made from Albana (60-80%) and Trebbiano Romagnolo (20-40%). Many of these wines are also available in Frizzante and Spumante versions, some are also made as a Passito. In some parts of the DOC, varietal wines made from basically the same varieties as those mentioned above are produced with additional designations stated on the label: Colline di Oliveto, Colline di Riosto, Colline Marconiane, Monte San Pietro, Serravalle and Terre di Montebudello.
