DOC for dry red, rosé and white wines in the wine-growing region of Umbria in Italy. The zone includes 13 communes in the province of Terni, including the provincial capital of the same name. The varietal-labelled wines, Merlot (a Riserva if´it has a minimum alcohol content of 12,5% vol) and Malvasia must contain a minimum of 85% of the stated variety, the remaining 15% may be made up of permitted varieties of the same colour. The Bianco is a blend of Trebbiano Toscano (70-85%), with unspecified amounts of Malvasia Toscana, Grechetto, Verdello and Garganega (up to 30%, of which a maximum of 10% Malvasia), as well as from other permitted white varieties (up to 15%). Rosso (also made as a Novello) and Rosato are blends made from Sangiovese (65-80%), with optional amounts of Montepulciano, Ciliegiolo, Canaiolo, Merlot and Barbera (up to 35%, of which a maximum of 10% Merlot), as well as rom other permitted red varieties (up to 15%). A Rosso with a minimum alcohol content of 12% vol may be called Superiore.
