Umbria

DOC (translates as „hill on the upper Tiber“) for dry red, rosé and white wines in the wine-growing region of Umbria in Italy. The zone includes communes located on both sides of the upper Tiber valley, viz. Citerna, Citta di Castello, Gubbio, Monte Santa Maria Tiberina, Montone, Perugia, San Giustino and Umbertide in the province of Perugia. The wines from this region were already praised by the younger Pliny (61-113) on the occasion of a summer visit to a villa located above the Tiber. The Bianco is a blend of Trebbiano Toscano (75-90%), Malvasia del Chianti (up to 10%), as well as optionally of other permitted white varieties (up to 15%). Rosso and Rosato are blends made from Sangiovese (55-70%), Merlot (10-20%), Trebbiano Toscano and Malvasia del Chianti (up to 10%) as well as optionally from other permitted varieties (up to 10%).
