The zone includes parts of the communes of Manciano, Pitigliano, Scansano and Sorano in the province of Grosseto. The dry wine (also made as a Spumante) is a blend made from Trebbiano Toscano (50-80%), and any mixture of Chardonnay, Grechetto, Pinot Bianco, Riesling Italico and Sauvignon (up to 30%), and any mixture of Greco, Malvasia Bianca Toscana and Verdello (up to 20%), as well as other permitted white varieties (up to 10%). If it has a minimum alcohol content of 12% vol it may be called Superiore.
