DOC for dry red wine located in the Piemont region in Italy. This is a large zone with a total vineyard area of 2.500 hectares in the Langhe hills of Alba, and includes 54 communes in the province of Cuneo. The wines are 100% varietal wines made from Barbera grapes. If the wine has a minimum alcohol content of 12,5% vol, and has been matured for a year, it may be called Superiore. Well-known producers include Ascheri, Bel Colle, Bosco Agostino, Bricco Maiolica, Brovia, Cabutto, Cagliero, Cucco, Gagliardo, Montanello, Monti, Angelo Nero, Piazzo, Prunotto, Angelo Rocca, Bruno Rocca and Mauro Veglio.
