The estate is located in the town of Fumane in the Venezia wine-growing region in Italy. The family has played a major role in wine production since the 16th century, and was among the largest and most influential property owners in the 17th century. Giovanni Allegrini, who died in 1983, is considered to be one of the pioneers in the Valpolicella region. Today, the estate is owned by his three children Franco, Walter (who went his own way in 2003) and Marilisa. The vineyard area totals 70 hectares all located in the Valpolicella Classico region, in the communes of Fumane, Sant´Ambrogio and San Pietro. The flagship wine is the barrique-matured IGT “La Grola”, which originates from a 2,65 hectare site on top of a hill, and is a blend of 70% Corvina, Rondinella, Sangiovese and some Syrah. The grapes are harvested extremely late, in November, and are hand-picked. Other top products include the varietal IGT wine „La Poja“ (100% Corvina) and the IGT „Palazzao delle Torre“ (from a 10-hectare vineyard of that name, 70% Corvina, Rondinella, Sangiovese). All three IGT wines derive their names from famous vineyard sites. In addition, excellent DOC Valpolicella wines are produced, in the variants Amarone and Recioto. The well-known wine guide Gambero Rosso has so far awarded the top rating of three red glasses to wines of this estate 21 times (correct as at 2006).
