Umbria

DOC for dry red, rosé and white wines in the Umbria region in Italy. The zone includes the town of Assisi – the birthplace of Saint Francis of Assisi (1181-1226), Perugia and Spella in the province of Perugia. The Grechetto must contain at least 85% of this variety, the balance of 15% must consist of permitted white varieties. The Bianco is made from Trebbiano (50-70%), Grechetto (10-30%), and may be blended with other permitted white varieties (up to 40%). Rosso (also in a Novello style) and Rosato are made from Sangiovese (50-70%), Merlot (10-30), and may be blended with other permitted red varieties (up to 40%).
