The estate is located in the commune of Selinous close to Corinth in the east of the Peloponnes island in Greece. It was founded in 1989 by Bordeaux graduate Anghelos Rouvalis. The first wine was produced a year later. A new cellar was built in 1994. Oenologist Yannis Karabatsos has also been working at the estate since then. The vineyards lie at an altitude of 500 to 850 metres above sea-level, close to the coast above the Gulf of Corinth. Grape varieties planted are Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Lagorthi, Merlot, Riesling, Roditis, Sauvignon Blanc, Syrah and Volitsa. The estate is considered to be one of the pioneers of modern winemaking styles in Greece. Following on extensive investigation of the terroir, great attention is now focussed on the indigenous Roditis grape. The flagship wine is the white „Asprolithi“, made from the grape variety of the same name. Annual production is around 180.000 bottles of wine.
The quality across the range is extremely varied. Some wines remain below the publication threshold, while others are very good. Woth a little more consistency, the winery would certainly be a candidate for a star rating.
