The estate is located in the Nemea appellation on the island of Peloponnes in Greece. It was founded in 1876 by the grandfather of the curent owner, Athanassios Papaïoannou. Athanassios is regarded as one of the best winemakers in Greece, his son George also assists him in the business. Particular attention is paid to planting and cultivating the vines in accordance with the requirements of the terroir. The vineyard area totals 55 hectares, 80% of this area is planted with the main variety Agiorgitiko, as well as with Assyrtico, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Malagousiá, Lagorthi, Pinot Noir, Roditis and Sauvignon Blanc. Experiments are being conducted with an additional 35 grape varieties, most of them indigenous Greek varieties. The flagship wines are the OPAP Nemea red wines Palea Klimata Agiorgitiko, produced from vines planted in the early 1970’s (Palea Klimata = old vines) and Agiorgitiko from selected grapes. Other wines worth mentioning are the white wines Asyrtiko Playies Ai-Liá Vareli and Fumé (Chardonnay). Annual production is around 350.000 bottles of wine.
