The „Domaine Katsaros“ estate is located in Kraniá at the foot of Mount Olympus in the Appellation Rapsani (Thessalia region) in Greece. It was founded in 1978 by Dr. Dimitrios Katsarós. He was one of the first to plant international grape varieties in this region, such as Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon (he pioneered this variety) and Merlot. In addition, indigenous varieties are also planted. Strict organic wine-growing principles are adhered to. The flagship product is the red blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (85%) and Merlot (15%), this is matured in barriques of French oak, is capable of maturing for decades, and is one of the best and most expensive red wines in the country. Annual production of this country wine is only 15.000 bottles. The Chardonnay carries a slightly different label each year, showing different flowers found in the region.
