This appellation (also spelled Ankhialos, Anhialos) is located to the south of the port city of Volos on the Gulf of Paga in the Thessalia region in Greece, it is named after the city of the same name. The vineyard area totals around 400 hectares, these are located only slightly above sea-level. The proximity of the ocean has a beneficial effect on the climatic conditions. The OPAP white wine is made from equal portions of the indigenous grape varieties Roditis and Savatiano.
