Top wines in Domain Wonnegau
  Wonnegau

The Wonnegau is one of the warmest and driest regions in Germany. For centuries the prevailing opinion was that the limestone-rich, heavy clay soils found here were simply not suitable for the production of top-class wines. Klaus Keller in Flörsheim-Dalsheim conclusively proved the sceptics wrong in the Nineties. His uncompromising dedication to absolutely top quality produced excellent, even great wines from the Dalsheimer Hubacker and Monsheimer Silberberg vineyards. It has been shown that in this region, which is often threatened by drought, the availability of fertile soils is an asset rather than a drawback. Another producer who has in recent years produced first-class wines is Wittmann in Westhofen, who sources his grapes from the Aulerde and Morstein vineyards. Both these producers are now counted among the absolute elite in the Rheinhessen region.
In addition, a large number of young, ambitious winemakers is working hard to move up to the level of the two quality leaders in the Wonnegau. Although there are still a few hurdles that need to be cleared, it seems that the general direction of development cannot be stopped, and is pointing very much in the right direction.
