The estate is located in the commune of Bernkastel-Wehlen in the Mosel wine-growing region in Germany, and has been owned by the family for several centuries. It has been run by Markus Molitor, the eighth generation of the family, since 1984. The vineyard area totals 37 hectares, with holdings in the following vineyard sites: in Bernkastel: Badstube, Graben and Lay, in Brauneberg: Klostergarten and Mandelgraben, in Niedermennig: Herrenberg, in Graach: Domprobst and Himmelreich, in Traben: Schlossberg, in Ürzig: Würzgarten, in Wehlen: Klosterberg and Sonnenuhr, and in Zeltingen: Deutschherrenberg, Himmelreich, Schlossberg and Sonnenuhr. The area is planted mainly with Riesling (34 ha), as well as with Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc. Special mention should be made of the holdings in the Zeltinger Sonnenuhr site, which has 4,5 hectares of very old, ungrafted Riesling vines. Selective picking takes place as late as possible, the grapes are gently pressed, the musts are then fermented in the old vaulted cellars using almost exclusively natural yeasts, partly in stainless steel tanks, partly in traditional oak barrels. After fermentation, the wines are left to mature on the lees for quite a long period, they are then lightly filtered before bottling. Sweet botrytis wines at Auslese, Beerenauslese, Trockenbeerenauslese and Eiswein, as well as bottle-fermented sparkling wines are also produced. The estate is a member of the Bernkasteler Ring association.
