The estate is located in the commune of Forst in the Pfalz wine-growing region in Germany. It was founded in 1920 by Richard Mosbacher (1898-1977) together with his sisters, and was named after their father. Own wines were already bottled at this early stage. Today, the estate is run by his granddaughter Sabine, together with her husband Jürgen Düringer. Richard II. Mosbacher, who built up the estate in the 1980’s to be one of the leading estates in the Pfalz region, is also still there in an advisory capacity. The vineyard area totals 15 hectares, with holdings in the following sites: Freundstück, Musenhang, Pechstein Stift and Ungeheuer in Forst, Hergottsacker, Kieselberg, Leinhöhle and Maushöhle in Deidesheim, as well as in the communes of Niederkirchen and Wachenheim. 80% of the area is planted with Riesling (12 ha), the remainder is planted with Pinot Blanc, Dornfelder, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Gewürztraminer and Scheurebe. Sustainable, integrated principles are implemented in the vineyards, with no herbicides, use of beneficial insects, controlled fertilising and cover crops. The premium wines are marketed as Grand Crus (Großes Gewächs), those from Niederkirchen and Wachenheim are marketed as estate wines. In addition, Eiswein, bottle-fermented sparkling wines and grappa-style spirits are also produced. The estate is a member of the VDP (Verband deutscher Prädikats- und Qualitäts-Weingüter) association.
