The estate is located in the small town of Saarburg (Saar area) in the Mosel wine-growing region in Germany. It was the family estate of Ferdinand Geltz (1851-1925), the senior forestry officer of the Prussian king. Today it is owned by his grandson Hans-Joachim Zilliken. The vineyard area totals 11 hectares, with holdings in the Bockstein (Ockfen) and Rausch (Saarburg) sites. They are planted exclusively with Riesling, the average age of the vines is 30 years. Average yield is restricted to 50 hectolitres per hectare. The cellar is located on three levels, lying up to nine metres below the manor house, and provides a constant temperature of 10 °Celsius and virtually 100% humidity, ideal conditions ofr the wines to ferment and mature in traditional oak vats. Bottle-fermented Riesling sparkling wines are also produced. The estate is a member of the VDP (Verband deutscher Prädikats- und Qualitäts-Weingüter) association, and of the Winzervereinigung Pro Riesling association.
