Top wines in Domain Obermosel
  Obermosel

The least known sub-region in the area is the northern Mosel, or Upper Mosel, between the mouth of the Saar River near Konz and the German-French border. Here the Elbling grape variety predominates, an ancient variety that was first planted here by Romans in the third century A.D. This variety is rather neutral in character, and has quite a strong acidity, making it predominantly useful in the production of sparkling wines. In the past few years, however, a handful of extremely dedicated winemakers has also turned its efforts to the production of better quality still wines, an effort that has been noted and rewarded both by the trade press and by consumers.
