The estate is located in the village of Trittenheim (Bernkastel area) in the Mosel wine-growing region in Germany. The family has been involved in wine production since the 17th century. After completing her oenological studies at the technical university at Geisenheim, Eva Clüsserath, whose main job is at the headquarters of the Pfalz VDP, took over responsibility for winemaking at her parents’ estate in 1998. Her father Ansgar continues to look after the vineyards, while mother Elsbeth is responsible for the attached guest house, and for customer relations. The vineyard area totals just on four hectares in the communes of Mülheim (Sonnenlay), Neumagen (Rösengärtchen) and Trittenheim (Altärchen and Apotheke). The main variety planted is Riesling (3,4 ha), with small portions of Pinot Blanc, Kerner and Müller-Thurgau. The 2001 vintage, the very first one produced by Eva Clüsserath, attracted considerable attention. Natural yeasts were used, and the wines were fermented in traditional oak vats. The wines are kept on the lees for an extended period, resulting in classic, long-lived Riesling wines with terroir character. Around two thirds of the production is fermented dry. Since the 2003 vintage, the dry wines have no longer shown predicate classifications on the label, they are simply identified by one to three „stars”.
